NJ has 4 Hardiness Zones with 6a being the coldest in the northwest part of the state and 7b being the warmest in a few small and coastal areas of the state. Much of the state is in 6b or 7a. In much of the state, you’ll want to choose plants that are fit for Zone 7 or less, but if you are in the cooler northern part of the state, you’ll want to stick with plants fit for Zone 6 or less.
