OUR MISSION

In 2014, Alex Stein and Jenna Krug bought Good Earth Nursery and Garden Center with the aim to re-establish themselves just miles from childhood homes and family, and reimagine the business with more environmentally conscious and sustainable practices and products. Alex and Jenna revitalized its inventory of plants, trees, and shrubs by adding native species, organic seeds and soil products, and sourcing local growing stock. In addition to broadening the diversity of plant offerings, they updated the barn shop front and invested in growing many of their own plants by adding a greenhouse and garden hoops for perennials. Good Earth also specializes in acquiring rare and hard-to-find plants for their clientele, providing a service many other garden centers choose not to pursue.

Alex and Jenna are committed to operating Good Earth as stewards of the environment, and therefore have improved on sustainable business practices by recycling plant containers, composting organic matter on site, and increasing the number of native plant offerings.

The Garden Center now carries >400 varieties of plants and trees, Coast of Maine line of organic soil products, and a great selection of gardening accessories. Tulips, daffodils, and young, tender stemmed vegetables appear on the benches at Good Earth in early spring. The landscape of Good Earth transforms to a technicolor display of its summer varieties of annuals, perennials, and trees and shrubs. As summer transitions to fall, Good Earth provides autumn-time staples such as mums, pumpkins and gourds, and hay bales. The year isn’t complete without seasonal holiday offerings of wreaths, evergreen garlands, and Christmas trees, too.

We are open

The growing season at Good Earth only slows for a short winter break, but seeds are already germinating in the greenhouses come February. Alex and Jenna are available year-round to provide advice about gardening and the availability of their products.
